TekMedia adds the organisation and cleanup tools the WordPress media library is missing, without asking you to learn a second interface. It looks and behaves like wp-admin, because it is wp-admin.

TekMedia Pro
Every Pro feature’s interface ships inside this plugin, shown in place with a PRO badge. Installing TekMedia Pro unlocks it exactly where it already is — no settings move, and nothing has to be set up twice.
- Cloud storage. Connect Google Drive or Dropbox, browse a folder and import files into TekMedia, optionally keeping them synced.
- Builder-aware scanning. Deep scans read Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, ACF and Beaver Builder layouts, so a file used only inside a page builder is no longer flagged as unused.
- Post-type-wide folders. Folders can hold products, posts or any post type you enable, not only media.
TekMedia works fully on its own. Pro is an addition, never a requirement.
Source Code
The JavaScript and CSS in assets/build/ are compiled from the readable sources in assets/src/ using @wordpress/scripts. To rebuild them from a checkout:

Installation
- Upload the
tekmediafolder to/wp-content/plugins/, or install the plugin through Plugins Add New. - Activate TekMedia through the Plugins screen.
- Open TekMedia in the admin menu. Your existing media is available immediately — nothing is moved or modified on activation.
- Create your first folder from the sidebar, then drag files into it.
Deactivating TekMedia removes no data. Uninstalling removes your folders and settings only if you opt in first, under TekMedia Settings General.
FAQ

Will TekMedia change or move my existing files?

No. Folders are a layer on top of your media library, not a directory structure on disk. Your files stay exactly where WordPress put them, and every existing URL keeps working. Deactivating the plugin leaves your library as it was.

Are my files deleted when I move them to the trash?
-
No. Moving a file to the TekMedia trash hides it from your library but leaves the file itself untouched, so any post using it keeps working. Files are only removed permanently when you empty the trash, or when the retention period you set in Settings expires.

What happens to my folders if I deactivate the plugin?

Nothing. Deactivating removes no data. Folder structure, trash contents and settings are all preserved, and only removed on uninstall if you have opted in under Settings.

Does the unused-media scan read page-builder layouts?
-
No. The free scan reads WordPress post content, featured images and widgets. Files used only inside Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, ACF or Beaver Builder may be flagged as unused, so check those layouts before deleting. Page-builder-aware scanning is a Pro feature.

Where does image optimization happen?
-
On your own server, using the image library PHP already has. Nothing is uploaded anywhere and no account is needed. That is also why there is a monthly allowance rather than a bill.

Will optimizing break the images already on my pages?
-
No. Optimizing rewrites the file in place, so the filename, the URL and the attachment ID all stay the same. If compressing a file would make it bigger — which happens with images that are already well compressed — it is left exactly as it was, and it does not use up part of your allowance.

Can I undo an optimization?

Yes, as long as “Keep original files” is on, which it is by default. Each optimized image has its original stored alongside, and Restore puts it back.

Is a shortcut a copy of the file?
-
No. A shortcut is a pointer, so it uses no extra storage. Deleting a shortcut removes only the pointer — the original file, and every other folder showing it, are untouched.

What happens to posts using a duplicate I trash?
-
They are rewritten to use the file you kept, before the copy is trashed. Featured images, images in content, gallery shortcodes and every generated size are all repointed, so nothing breaks. The copies go to the recoverable trash, not straight to deletion.

Does renaming a file break the pages already using it?
-
No. Every previous filename is recorded and 301-redirects to the current one, including each generated thumbnail size. Note that this works because a request for a missing file reaches WordPress; if your host serves
/wp-content/uploads/from its own server block without passing through PHP, the redirect cannot run. -
Do Pexels and Unsplash need an account?
-
Openverse does not, and it is the default. Pexels and Unsplash each need a free API key from their developer site, which you paste into Settings. Every imported photo has its credit and licence saved to the caption field automatically.

Do I need TekMedia Pro?

No. TekMedia is complete on its own. Pro adds cloud storage, builder-aware scanning and post-type-wide folders. You can see exactly what it adds before buying, because the interface is already here with a PRO badge on it.
